Our AGMs

 

 

The Slough Senior Citizens Group has regular Meetings and Events in the Communal Area in the Brook House, Chalvey, Slough.

It is these meetings that bring the members of the Executive Committee together, alongwith the members and topics related to the Group and others affecting Seniors today. These meetings are open to all

 

 


The AGMs

An Annual General Meeting, commonly referred to as an AGM, is a formal meeting which is held once a year. It is a legal requirement for voluntary organisations that have company status. It is good practice for charities to have an AGM to act as a review of the year and deal with issues such as the election of committee / board members and reviewing annual accounts.

Each individual organisation should have a section of its Constitution which deals with the AGMs, and this gives guidance as to how the AGM should be run and what matters should be dealt with.

The AGMs are also a good opportunity for the Group to communicate with members, clients, partners, and other interested parties.


20th October 2006

The 1st AGM took place on 20th October 2006 and marked an important moment for the Group, with 98 members/guests present on this occasion. The Executive Committee was elected in this meeting. The Minutes of this meeting can be found here:

19th October 2007

We had a recent AGM which took place on the 19th October 2007 with a combination of displays and presentations from distinguished guests, such as the Mayor of Slough and Fiona Mactaggart.

Displays evident were from the Energy Conservation Office, Slough Borough Council (Green & Built Environment), Thames Valley Police specific to the senior citizens of Slough, the SCVS.

Presentations were made by Dr Khalid Barakat, on "Coronary Heart Treatments & it's modern treatments"a Consultant Cardiologist at the Heatherwood & Wexham Park Foundation Trust. The presentations were excellent expressing information about various Heart conditions. Along with this Dr Barakat went into detail passing on information about complex procedures which take place today with heart patients, along with the modern technology being used at Heatherwood & Wexham Park.

Dr Khalid Barakat qualified as a doctor from Oxford and London in 1991 and is a Consultant Cardiologist based within the Thames Valley regions and also in Windsor and Ascot, with sessions at The Royal Brompton Hospital in London. His specialist interests within cardiology are transoesophageal echocardiography, permanent pacemaker implantation and interventional cardiology. He specifically showed presentations related to investigations where pacemakers have been implanted successfully with his patients.

Vikki Wadd

Viki Wadd, the Assistant Director of the Slough Locality, Berkshire East PCT gave an informative presentation on "A guide to local NHS Services" in Slough, for the seniors. Specific guidance was given to the audience related to what to do when issues / crisis occurs with older patients at home and out of home. Vikki also introduced the Berkshire East Commissioning Strategy 2007-2011 and urged everyone to provide feedback / comments / suggestions, as it is our NHS Services, and we need to contribute to make a difference.

Along with the presentations, the general AGM was run and presented by Vijay Gupta who reported on the Annual Report and Annual Accounts for 2006 - 2007.

Also, amongst the Councillors and guests from Slough Borough Council, was Councillor Mewa Singh Mann, a previous Mayor of Slough. He has decided to donate his complete body to the Neuro Sign Nerve Continuity Monitor for Wexham Park Hospital for the benefit of Medical Research. To read more about Mewa Singh Mann, click here:
